I've always had the desire to make a difference in peoples lives. Each day when a i wake up i feel a desire coming from deep inside of me that makes me realise that i have one more day to go out there and make a difference in someones life.
There is so much going on in lives of people today, we are more focused on one little corners we call our own. We get so focused on our own lives or caught up in our own bubbles that we forget what’s really important, like helping other people, making a difference, and taking initiative where others won’t. Let's be honest, we feel good when we contribute to other peoples lives and our community. It's all about helping, sharing, giving and contribute to our self-worth and positive feelings.
“Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone’s life. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance.”
― Roy T. Bennett
I like to keep it simple, always smile at someone and do something for a friend or a stranger. I see myself and my happiness linked to a wider community, it feels so rewarding and creates close links to people around me. Making a difference makes me feel there is meaning in my life and a sense of significance. After all, to make a difference in someones life does not have to be brilliant, you don't have to be rich or perfect, you just have to care enough to be there..
“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”
― Charles Dickens
Here are some cool ideas..
- You can donate all your old clothes or unused household items to charity organisations instead of selling.
- Take opportunities to support and promote for groups, friends, family or neighbours in need.
- Offer to help a neighbour or a friend with his/her to do list
- Help at fundraisers, social events and community events.
- Look at what you are good at doing and what you enjoy, and offer to share those skills to help others.
- Give a compliment where due and acknowledge what someone in your life has done well.
I personally feel its better to give than to receive, so when you're deciding whether to do something small, follow some of my ideas i just mentioned above or do something nice for people who would otherwise not make any difference in your life, go ahead and do it. You'll get so much more fulfilment and satisfaction out of it as they will — if not more.
Perhaps the reason it feels so good to give is because we know, deep down, that even an individual can change the world. All it takes is one small act of giving.
